“Housewife-Porsche”

that’s what we called the VW Karman Ghia at home in our family. This nickname came through the 30 HP with 115 km/h top speed plus her sportive look. She became a sales hit in foreign countries, especially in the USA, of which actually 443,478 cars and 81,000 convertibles were made.
Chassis and engine came from the VW beetle, yet the Karmann Ghia is in many an aspect her own car with lots more details and efforts in production which began 1955 at the Karmann Works, Osnabrueck, and finished there on 31.07.1974. The starting price for the Coupé was 7,500.00 DM and as of November 1957 for the convertible only 8,500.00 DM.

Our CarMANT VW – Karmann Special Ghia Convertible
came to us from sunny Arizona more by coincidence. Our US-Scout Art Stahl told a friend that we were looking for a good Karmann Ghia Convertible to add to our CarMANT Fleet. The next day, this friend saw a Karmann Ghia parked next to a mall. He asked the owner whether he would sell this car and the answer was ‘yes and no’. Yes because he did consider selling her and no because he wanted to know more about the buyer. Spontaneously they went to the next Internet-Cafe, visited www.carmant.de and the “deal” was perfect.
Now, our ‘Housewife-Porsche’ is on her way to us expected to be here by mid February. Just in time to be maintained and made ready for the season 2009. We and our friends are more than eager driving her on Gerrman roads-
Until then please enjoy impressions of the
